SARNIA, Ontario — Several players introduced themselves as stars to their respective conferences and the rest of Canada over the past seven days.
In Ontario, first-year guard Kaitlyn Overeem put together a pair of impressive performances to help guide the Waterloo Warriors to a pair of home wins. With nine first-year players on their roster, the Warriors are arguably Canada’s youngest team, but they have now won three of their last four outings after a slow start to the season.
Out on the West Coast, the Canada West Conference is home to some of the top forwards in the entire country. On Friday night, Kayla Ivicak narrowly missed a 20-20 game for the MacEwan Griffins, falling just one rebound shy of the mark. She finished the game with 21 points and 19 rebounds against the Mount Royal Cougars. Ivicak and the Griffins swept the weekend set with the Cougars in the process.
There were some impressive games from coast to coast over the past week. Fans saw a little bit of redemption served in the nation’s capitol, while some of the top contenders made statements with wins over other top teams in their respective leagues.
While teams themselves made statements, individual players put forth some impressive performances that deserve some attention. In fact, five players from each conference stood out above the rest, and they make up this week’s edition of the Starting Five.
