SARNIA, Ontario — The Christmas break is just around the corner for teams all across the CCAA, and a well deserved break it will be for everyone.
Exams are set to begin for students across the country, and with the exception of a handful of games in the OCAA this week, the courts will be quiet as the focus shifts to studying and the Christmas break. The second half of the season will be an interesting one to keep an eye on as teams will be looking to make a run at their league titles with the hopes of securing one of the eight spots at the CCAA Championships in March.
This past week saw some impressive performances from some of the country’s top teams and players. In the OCAA, the Algonquin Thunder extended their winning streak thanks in large part to an impressive week that featured a pair of double-doubles from a first-year guard. Out west, the Briercrest College Clippers completed a weekend sweep on the road to get into a tie for fourth-place in their division ahead of the break.
While there were strong team performances, individual players put together balanced stat lines that helped carry their teams to big wins over the weekend. In fact, five players from each league stood out above their fellow competitors, and those student-athletes make up this week’s edition of the Starting Five.
