CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI — Another day, another local recruit has committed to play for the Holland Hurricanes in 2019-20.

Head coach Jared Cheverie and the Holland College women’s basketball team have confirmed the addition of Brynn Essery to their roster for the upcoming season.

Essery, a forward from Charlottetown, PEI, is currently completing her time at the Charlottetown Rural High School where she was a member of the Raiders AAA team.

“I’m excited to attend Holland College this fall as I begin my next chapter as a student-athlete,” said Essery. “My interactions to-date have helped me realize the potential that Holland College offers me. I’m excited to see how this assists me as I work towards my career of choice.”

Essery has represented Prince Edward Island at the national level on multiple occasions,
including at the Canada Games.

The rookie forward had this to say on what she can bring to the Hurricanes this season.

“I will bring lots of positive energy and a competitive attitude to the team. I want to work hard and help bring the team to the highest level of competition possible.”

After winning the provincial high-school championship in back-to-back seasons with the
Charlottetown Rural Raiders, Essery looks to find success with the Hurricanes this season after the Hurricanes missed the playoffs last season.

“Fans can expect an exciting and competitive season,” added Essery. “Hopefully they will enjoy every moment of this journey with us.”

In terms of both men’s and women’s basketball, the Hurricanes have added their share of talent from the Island to their rosters. Essery will join fellow first-year forward and Charlottetown native Rylee Connolly on the Hurricanes this season.
