ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — The Fraser Valley Cascades have hired their next Men’s Basketball Head Coach.
You may be familiar with the name: Joe Enevoldson.
On Monday afternoon, the University of the Fraser Valley athletic department announced the hiring of Enevoldson, just over two months since the position became vacant. Back on February 28th, the Cascades and Adam Friesen agreed to part ways.

“Joe is a proven coach who has taken the Douglas College program to another level,” said Steve Tuckwood, UFV director of athletics and campus recreation in the Cascades’ official release. “We also know that he has strong connections with basketball development in the province of British Columbia, and we’re excited to have him come and join us.”
Enevoldson comes to the Cascades after a stellar career with the Douglas College Royals in the PACWEST BC and the CCAA. During his four years with the Royals, Enevoldson helped guide Douglas College to four PACWEST medals. His tenure started with a Bronze Medal back in 2016-17, and he followed that up with a Gold Medal the next season.
After a Silver Medal in 2018-19, Enevoldson and the Royals brought home Gold this past season, and were destined for the 2020 CCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship at Humber College before they were cancelled due to COVID-19.
Over his four seasons at Douglas College, Enevoldson put together a record of 50-22 in league play. He was named the PACWEST Coach of the Year in both 2018-19 and 2019-20, and was also named the CCAA Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2019-20 season.
“It’s a dream job,” said Enevoldson. “To coach at the U SPORTS level, the highest level of amateur sport in Canada, is exciting. I’m ecstatic about the opportunity to get back to that level and coach in a day-to-day scenario against some of the best coaches and athletes in the country.”
While becoming Head Coach of the Cascades may represent Enevoldson’s first U Sports Head Coaching position, he’s no stranger to the top level in Canadian collegiate basketball. Here’s a look at Enevoldson’s coaching resume through the years:
- UBC Thunderbirds, Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach (2003-04)
- Thompson Rivers, Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach (2005-06)
- SAIT Trojans, Women’s Basketball Head Coach Coach (2006-07)
- Mount Royal Cougars, Women’s Basketball Head Coach (2007-13)
- Thompson Rivers, Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach (2013-15)
- Douglas College, Men’s Basketball Head Coach (2016-20)
“I plan to bring a culture that I believe is conducive to personal and athletic growth,” added Enevoldson. “I truly do believe that the holistic student-athlete is the best student-athlete. My goal will be to win the community, and to build a program that the Fraser Valley is proud of.”
